High Performance Batting

Batting Skill Set & Mind Set

Being a high performance batter is about combining a solid skill set while being able to maintain the mind set to take on any opposition.

Physical Skills

The physical skill sets of batting include two simple but important parts.

The first being strong fundamentals. The player must be able to comfortably score off both the front and back foot. The player must also be able to score on both sides of the wicket. To do this the player has to develop a strong stance, grip and set-up that allows this.

Secondly, the player must be a good runner between the wickets. being able to "steal" singles and turn 1s into 2s is vital to progressing as a batsman.

The High Performance Batting Mindset

Sound Decision Making:
A High Performance batter has a 'score first' mindset. This means they look at each ball as a scoring opportunity. They are able to adapt and make quick decisions on the run.

Tactically Aware:
In simple terms the batter needs to know what is going on around them. Being able to keep track of the game such as the number of balls and overs left to play, or which bowlers can be targeted. They also need to be able to adapt tactics and be versatile in a variety of situations.

Mentally Strong:
A High Performance batter has to be mentally strong. They are able to make decisions and be tactically aware when the going gets tough. They are able to absorb the pressure and counter-punch. Mentally strong batters are the batters who score runs and perform against the best oppositions.
